Call for Participation: Future Masters 2021

The Nova Scotia Masterworks Award Foundation is inviting applications for participation from emerging creators between the ages of 17 and 24 to participate in a seven week multidisciplinary arts mentorship program taking place from February 13th to March 27th, 2021.

Future Masters 2021 will offer mentorship to support the professional growth of eight young artists in Nova Scotia/Mi’kma’ki. The program will pair participating emerging artists with established professionals from the Masterworks community who work in a similar discipline. Aimed at supporting the next generation of Nova Scotian creators, participants will have the opportunity to build enduring relationships with local arts professionals and fellow participants while developing an artistic project. All meetings and events will take place online.

Over seven weeks, the mentor will support the development of a new or unfinished work by the participant, meeting with them three times over the course of the program. The participant will learn how to pitch their project, garner new strategies for moving through a development process, and gain practice presenting and discussing in-process work. The intention of the program is to provide professional feedback and direction to young artists creating new projects, not to create a finished work. Please note that eligible projects can either be brand new works or those already in development.

Applicants must be available to attend the meet and greet (February 13th), the pitch session (February 20th) and the final presentation (March 27th) and make time to meet with their mentor three times during the program.

To apply, you must be a Nova Scotian creator aged 17 – 24 with an active practice in any creative medium. Special consideration will be given to applicants from these communities. All participants will receive a $450 honorarium and materials budget, if required.
