Katharine MacDonald Poirier is an emerging self-taught embroidery artist based in North End Halifax. Originally from Prince Edward Island, Katharine’s art naïf style of embroidery is an expression of her love of Maritime landscapes, cityscapes, and the rural idyll of PEI. Indeed, all islands serve as inspiration: her Masters’ research in Island Studies is reflected in her embroideries of islands near and far. Having always considered herself “craft-adjacent,” Katharine finally immersed herself in embroidering during the lockdown earlier this year and hasn’t stopped stitching since.
