Susan Leblanc

Susan is co-artistic director of Zuppa Theatre Co. – an ensemble company based in Halifax celebrating its 15th season this year. Since joining Zuppa in 1999, she has co-created and performed in twelve productions, most recently Five Easy Steps (to the end of the world) which won the 2011 Merritt Award for Outstanding Production and for which Susan won the award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, and The Debacle. As a freelance actor, Susan has worked extensively with Two Planks and a Passion Theatre (touring Canada with Cypher and Halo) and has also performed at The Atlantic Theatre Festival, Mermaid Theatre and Live Bait Theatre.

She is a graduate of Dalhousie University’s Department of Theatre, where she often teaches acting as a part-time instructor. She has trained with members of Primus Theatre in physical performance and with Philippe Gaulier (here in Halifax and at École Philippe Gaulier in Paris) in clown, bouffon and melodrama.

Susan created The Debacle with Ann-Marie Kerr in the winter of 2011 and since its premier at Plutonium Playhouse in April of that year it has garnered rave reviews, four Merritt nominations (including Outstanding Production and Outstanding New Play) and has played at The New Groundswell Festival in Toronto, Festival TransAmérique in Montreal and at Saint John Theatre Company (the latter two engagements featuring Ann-Marie Kerr as the performer).

Susan is currently on maternity leave from Zuppa, getting to know her brand-new daughter Françoise, but will return to the stage to perform in The Debacle for a short run in November and in Zuppa’s new show Attaining Gigantic Dimensions – set to premier in April 2013.
